George K. Taylor
12/27/1915 - 7/17/2008

Passed away peacefully at age 92 years six months and seventeen days surrounded by family after a valiant 5 month struggle with multiple health problems. George was born in Blaine, WA the youngest of six children born to Lee J. and Mabel Taylor. Lee held various positions in the timber industry and the family moved from one mill site to another making George's early years a young boys dream, never running out of new places to explore and new friends to make, some of those friendships lasting a lifetime. The family eventually settled in Snohomish, WA for several years until George was a junior in high school when they moved to Seattle. George graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1933 and despite the economic depression managed to attend the University of Washington for three years majoring in Aeronautical Engineering until lack of money and a near fatal kidney abscess forced him to withdraw from school. While convalescing at his sister's home in Eastern Washington, George met Marie Stennes and a love story lasting more than 70 years was begun. They were married on Vashon Island in 1939 and lived in Seattle for all of the next 69 years raising three sons Paul D. (Carole), George M. (Josie), and Richard S. (Lois). In addition to his beloved Marie and his sons and their wives, he is survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

At the outbreak of WWII George was working for Shell Oil. He eventually went to work for Puget Sound Sheet Metal which had a contract from Boeing for the construction of B-17 wing assemblies. He spent most of the war years supervising the construction of wings for the "Flying Fortress". After the war, George stayed with the company which evolved into PSF Industries. Rising to the position of Executive Vice President, he retired in 1980 after 38 years with the firm.

The essence of Dad's life can be summed up simply by saying that he was a thoroughly decent man, loved deeply by his family, liked by most who crossed his path, and respected by all. The world is a poorer place with his passing. Burial to be private at Evergreen Cemetery with a memorial service to be held at University Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, July 23rd at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be in the form of contributions to the church or charity of your choice.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staffs at Northwest Hospital, Kindred Hospital, Anderson House, Foss Home, and Providence Hospice for their care and compassion during these last difficult months of George's life.
