Elnora BLACK July 11, 1917 – July 12, 2008

Elnora Black was born July 11, 1917 in Starksville, Mississippi. She was the oldest of three children born to Osgood and Rosetta Norman.
Elnora grew up in Starksville and completed her early education there. In later years she earned her teaching certificate and taught elementary education in Starksville.
Elnora married L.T. Simmons and to that union one son was born—Bobby Simmons.
Elnora moved to Seattle, Washington in 1950 where she joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully there until 1969. In late 1969 she united with First A.M.E. Church in Seattle, Washington. Shortly thereafter she met Alcus. Black. They were married on March 29, 1971. They were both very committed and faithful to the work of the Church. Her husband, Alcus preceded her in death in 2002.
Elnora was a member of the Senior Usher Board. She was a free spirit and loved life and enjoyed every aspect of being an usher. She also served as a member of the Women’s Missionary Society where she was elected Conference Branch Missionary Queen in the year 2001 and served in that honorable status for one year. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Program and the Prayer Band. She rarely missed and opportunity to attend Noon-Day Prayer Meeting each Wednesday, and rarely missed an opportunity to pray a prayer that would cause the rafters to shudder.
Enriched by her life and cherishing her memory are her son, Bobby Simmons, grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
Elnora Black was beloved by many and will be missed by all. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, July 22; 11:00AM; First A.M.E. Church, 1522 14th Ave. Seattle. Please sign an on-line memorial at washelli.com
