Ernie was born in Tacoma, WA where he spent his childhood with his parents, brother Edward and sister Elaine. He attended Lincoln High School where he joined the Civil Air Patrol and learned to fly, a love that endured all his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight engineer and was stationed in Iceland. He attended St. Martins College in Lacey, WA followed by graduation at Washington State College majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He and his wife, Diane then moved to East Hartford, CT to work at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. After two years, he was employed by Boeing in Seattle, and lived in Bellevue the rest of his life raising his family. He later worked for the Navy at both Bremerton and Sandpoint Naval Station until his retirement. His passion was skiing, and he spent most of his weekends at Ski Acres on Snoqualmie Pass as a ski instructor. He was a member of St. Louise Catholic Church since its inception in 1959. He and Diane have five children, eleven grandchildren and one great grand son. He was active with his children's sports activities, and rarely missed a grandson's baseball game. He and Diane made two trips to Europe, visiting friends he had made when they were working with him as NATO engineers as well as German friends who introduced us to their family. He also met many of his aunts and uncles in Northern Italy for the first time in his life. He lived a full and happy life and will be remembered with love and affection.
