Lt. Col. Cameron, Douglas Conrad Sr.

Husband to Joan for fifty-one years and father of Michael, Bruce, and Douglas Jr., Douglas Sr. passed away on March 12, 2008 accompanied by friends and family. Born in Seattle on January 5, 1934 to William and Marian, he served his country for thirty-one years in the United States Air Force. While in the service, he earned his Bachelors in Political Science. His zeal and patriotism for his country did not go unnoticed. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Readiness Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with Six Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Clusters. Major Douglas Cameron distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States as Chief, Intelligence Division Office of the 17th Bombardment Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California. He also was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal as Chief of Intelligence at NATO Head Quarters Ramstein, Germany. In 1967 as a Missile Launch Officer, Captain Douglas Cameron Sr. and his crew averted possible launch of a malfunctioning Titan II ICBM from Vandenberg AFB. Douglas Cameron Sr. retired from the military, moving to Orangevale, California for his love of fishing, flying model airplanes, and being a Reno Air Race spectator. He led his remaining years as a respected and honorable man, a pleasure to all that knew him.
